Course Instructors: Rex Nelson & Duffy Keller
Rex Nelson is a native of Curtis, Nebraska, where he operated a farm and commercial feedlot for over 20 years. Rex now serves as Executive Director of McCook Economic Development Corporation. He holds a Master of Agri-Business degree from Kansas State University and is a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional.
Mr. Nelson’s investigations into rural retail trade have just been published by Great Plains Research under the title “Underlying Causes and Implications of Nebraska Retail Trade Patterns”. He believes that we have real opportunities to re-direct the economies of much of rural America with global understanding, improved local strategy, greater cooperation and maintaining a sense of humor.
Duffy Keller has recently returned to her roots in southwest Nebraska after working across the state and in Colorado for a number of years, and is currently affiliated with Coldwell Banker – Kircher & Associates Realty in McCook. She has studied business administration at Regis University in Colorado.
In addition to instructing many adult education classes, Ms. Keller’s work in public procurement and contract management included many presentations for small and minority business enterprises. Those presentations were designed to help people learn how they might use or sharpen small business skills in the participation of local government business needs. She says those experiences are a good match with the EDGE program.
Ms. Keller has worked a number of years either as a consultant or for an East Coast company from a small office in a private airport building in Colorado, and she understands the importance of being self-directed and motivated when one decides to be his or her own boss.
